Job Title: Mining Engineer – Chromite Mine
Location: Governorate of Muscat
Employment Type: Full-time
Reports To: Operation Managemen
Job Summary:
The Mining Engineer will oversee and optimize all technical aspects of mining operations at a chromite mine, ensuring efficient resource extraction while adhering to safety, environmental and regulatory standards. This role involves designing and implementing mining plans, coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams and driving operational improvements to achieve production targets.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Mine Design and Planning
Develop and update detailed mining plans for chromite extraction, considering geological data and operational constraints.
Plan short-term and long-term production schedules, ensuring optimal resource recovery and cost-efficiency.
Design and monitor drilling, blasting, and material handling activities.
Collaborate with geologists to evaluate ore body characteristics and align mining methods.
2. Operations Management
Oversee daily mining activities, ensuring adherence to production schedules.
Analyze operational performance and recommend improvements for efficiency and cost reduction.
Coordinate the procurement and maintenance of mining equipment and machinery.
Implement and monitor waste management and backfilling strategies.
3. Safety and Compliance
Ensure all mining activities comply with local and international health, safety and environmental regulations.
Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies for mining operations.
Provide training and guidance to site personnel on safety protocols and mining best practices.
Investigate and address incidents, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
4. Resource Management
Collaborate with geologists and surveyors to maximize ore recovery and minimize dilution.
Monitor ore grades and extraction rates, adjusting processes to maintain efficiency.
Prepare and manage budgets for mining projects, including labor, materials and equipment costs.
5. Reporting and Documentation
Prepare technical reports, including production performance, cost analysis and project progress updates.
Maintain accurate records of mine plans, drilling logs and other technical data.
Present operational data and improvement strategies to senior management.
6. Innovation and Development
Identify and implement new technologies or techniques to improve chromite mining efficiency.
Evaluate and adopt sustainable mining practices.
Participate in research and development initiatives related to chromite processing and beneficiation.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or a related field. A master’s degree is a plus.
Experience:
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in mining operations, preferably in chromite or other metalliferous minerals.
Experience in Oman or GCC is preferable.
Proven experience in mine planning, design and operations management.
Skills and Competencies:
Strong knowledge of mining software & reports (e. g. JORC, SURPAC, MineSight, AutoCAD, or similar).
Proficiency in drilling, blasting and mineral processing techniques specific to chromite.
Familiarity with environmental regulations and sustainability practices.
Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Strong communication and leadership abilities.
